Umrah Visa Requirements for US Citizens 2026

Planning Umrah from the USA in 2026? Understanding the visa requirements is your first step. US citizens cannot travel to Saudi Arabia for Umrah on a tourist visa – a dedicated Umrah visa is required, and the process has specific documentation requirements.

Do US Citizens Need a Visa for Umrah?

Yes. All pilgrims require an official Umrah visa issued by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This is entirely separate from the Saudi tourist visa and cannot be substituted for Umrah purposes.

Documents Required for Umrah Visa (US Citizens, 2026)

  • Valid US passport – must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates
  • Completed visa application form – handled by your licensed travel agency
  • Passport-size photos – 2 recent photos with white background
  • Proof of US residence – US driver’s license or utility bill
  • Proof of Muslim faith – for converts, a letter from your mosque or imam may be required
  • Meningitis vaccination certificate (ACWY) – mandatory Saudi Arabia requirement
  • Hotel booking confirmation in Mecca and Madinah
  • Return flight ticket

Women Traveling for Umrah from the USA

Saudi Arabia has relaxed mahram (male guardian) requirements. Women over 45 may travel in organized groups without a mahram. Women under 45 still require a mahram or must travel with an approved group through a licensed agency. Matchless Travels can advise based on current regulations at the time of your travel.

How Long Does Processing Take?

Visa processing typically takes 3-10 business days through a licensed agency. During peak Ramadan season, allow additional time. We recommend applying at least 4-6 weeks before your departure date.

How Much Does the Umrah Visa Cost?

Umrah visa fees are included in full-service package prices. Standalone fees are approximately $50-$150. Matchless Travels includes all visa processing costs in our packages – no hidden fees.

When Are Umrah Visas Available?

Umrah visas are available year-round with one exception: Saudi Arabia pauses new Umrah visa issuance during Hajj season (approximately March to mid-May 2026). Plan and book early if you are traveling close to this window.
